Thai Massage and Spa
An overview of the services we offer
Traditional Thai Massage
The basic form of the massage is performed fully clothed on a mat on the floor (no oils are used, unless neccessary). The technique involves putting gentle but firm pressure on the body with the palms and thumbs, as well as relaxing stretching of the limbs and back. In this way it works effectively on skin, muscle, the organs and the skeletal structure. Blood and lymph circulation is increased and waste substances are removed from tissues. The massage can be performed while fully clothed (light/thin garments only). You are welcome to wear your own or we can provide suitable clothing for your session.
Sport Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders. Deep tissue massage services employ greater pressure and work along specific muscular zones to relieve deep knots and tension that has built up in your body. This form of massage can also facilitate the release of lactic acid in your muscles to detoxify and improve circulation. Deep tissue massage is recommended for individuals who have received massage therapies previously and desire a deeper and more intense massage.
Aromatherapy Oil Massage
Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile plant materials, known as essential oils, and other aromatic compounds for the purpose of altering a person's mind, mood, cognitive function or health. Thai hot oil massage is an ancient oil massage therapy for healing and detoxifying Body, Mind and Spirit. Detox and stress reduction therapy is performed by herbal oils. It incorporates an aromatic combination of oils prepared with herbs warmed and blended specifically to your needs . A variety of techniques are applied to work along the energy channels of your body in a synchronized manner to restore the flow of vital energy where it has become blocked. Lymphatic stimulation with herbal oils help squeeze out toxic accumulation from channels.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage uses soothing oils, warm basalt stones to relax your muscles, allowing for a deeper and more intense all-over massage. In hot stone therapy, your therapist applies smooth, water-heated basalt stones to key points on your body. This direct heat relaxes your muscles and help to soothe an aching body, which means that the massage itself is more effective and intense than it would be otherwise. The size of the stones varies, according to which part of the body your therapist is treating. With the addition of heat, your body becomes relaxed in a much shorter space of time, and your therapist can focus on a deep working of the tissues using both the stones and her hand strokes.
Swedish massage is a traditional massage modality which employs effleurage (stroking) and percussion techniques. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks. The development of Swedish massage is often inaccurately credited to Per henrik Ling, though the dutch practitioner Johann Georg Mezger adopted the French names to denote the basic strokes. The term "Swedish" massage is actually only recognized in English and Dutch speaking countries, and in Hungary. Elsewhere (including Sweden) the style is referred to as "classic massage". This is the classic massage style that has proven effective for years in providing stress relief, pain reduction, and increased mobility for trouble spots. Be sure to mention if you are suffering from any injuries or skin conditions before scheduling this service.
Thai Foot Reflexology Massage
Thai Foot Massage as practised today is a distinctly Thai healing therapy. Thai Foot Massage is based on the belief that there are zones and reflex areas in the feet which correspond to all glands, organs, senses and systems of the body. The act of reading signs on the feet, of understanding the client as much as possible, and of applying pressure using the thumb, finger and hand techniques through specialized combinations of pressure is the art at the foundation of this 2,000year old massage technique. Thai Foot Massage involves hands on stretching and graceful two handed palm movements, stretches, circular massage and thumb pressure up to and just above the knee, along with the optional use of a special Thai stick made out of teak to stimulate the reflex points. The session generally starts at the fingers or toes, and works down to the heel of the hand or foot, then works the areas on the sides and top. By working all of the points, the reflexology addresses internal organs and glands as well as muscle groups, bones, nerve ganglions (solar plexus, brachial plexus) and nerves (sciatic) during a session. There is no need to undress as it only requires that shoes and socks/tights/stockings be removed.
Head, Neck & Shoulder Massage
In Western culture today we spend a lot of our time in working environment. This could effect our body structure movement as well as mental and emotional stress, especially heads, neck and shoulder parts. This massage treatment can really help to calm the mind and is surprisingly deeply relaxing. Working with a firm and gentle pressure, it helps to relieve muscular discomfort and tension as well as calming the spirit and aiding relaxation. It also improves circulation in the head, enhances the senses and promotes clear thinking. The massage usually begins with the upper back, where a combination of deep massage and pressure points help to relax the muscles and to loosen and melt knots. Moving through the shoulders and upper arms further releases the common spots for holding stress and tension, and then working deeply into the neck where tension accumulates relieves headaches and improves cerebral spinal fluid circulation. Moving up to the scalp, techniques are used that stimulate, relax and revive the whole of the head, increasing circulation and promoting healthy hair, leaving you relaxed, revitalised and re-energised. This is a very popular treatment, perfect for promoting a calm mind, a stress-free body and for maintaining optimum health. This therapy can be performed without oils with the client sitting and fully clothed (although a light t-shirt or vest is best suited for the treatment).
Thai Herbal Compressed & Oil Massage
The treatment combines eastern massage techniques with a light pressure patting, rolling, kneading and gentle but deeply effective massage. A herbal compress ball is a bag of herbs specially chosen that contain essential oils, when exposed to heat they will give out the aromas and oil at the same time. The heat from the compress carries the herbal essences and the essential oils deep into the skin, underlying tissues and organs. The treatment brings about a deep sensation of comfort and warmth, the compresses are soaked and then steamed to provide a deep penetrating warmth whilst stimulating the body to detoxify and heal itself. The warm herbal compresses are made up of a blend of up to 20 traditional Thai herbs (including turmeric, camphor, tamarind, lemongrass and kaffir lime) renowned for their invigorating, purifying, tension relieving and capacity to improve respiration and soothe general aches and pains. It is the old Thai traditional medicinal that can be used along with Thai massage after the massaging is done.
